BOUND UNTIL THE BITE

I’ve tugged and pulled at these chains
That bind my wrists.  They drain me.
Only a sense of hopelessness remains.
I can’t cry out; my screams don’t belong
As you force me onto the path of righteousness
You carved out with your wrong.
But one day, these chains will break.
I’ll be free of you
And I will be your snake—
The adder at your Achilles’ heel;
Sink my fangs into your calf
To watch you squirm and squeal
As I suck at tender flesh
Withheld for far too long
I am sure vengeance will refresh,
Healing up the cuts you scraped
Onto my bare skin when I was bound
Before I split my chains and escaped.
And now I lie in wait for the telltale crack
That signifies my freedom
So that I may stab you in the back.
A poem I wrote with an odd rhyming scheme as an experiment.

The enduring problem I have with this piece is that, while the content is fairly dark and somewhat sinister, the rhyming breaks from that. I dunno - it kind of broke the atmosphere for me?
